Every year millions of parents know the joy of giving birth to a healthy baby. But this joy is marred by the knowledge that every year thousands of apparently healthy infants will die of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), commonly known as crib death.

 

Every year at least one out of every three infants who die are victims of SIDS. All parents fear that their baby might become one of these frightening statistics. In spite of this horrifying reality, we spend at least five times more money burying victims of SIDS than seeking ways of preventing their deaths. SIDS can occur in families of all races, religions and income levels. It strikes without warning.

 

These tragedies will continue to occur every year until we begin to support the research needed to find solutions. Every day is critical. On the average, one infant dies of SIDS almost every hour.

 

Through your contribution, you can help SIDS of Pennsylvania:

 

• Provide support service to grieving families

• Educate health professionals, first responders and the general public about SIDS

• Distribute pamphlets, articles, films, newsletters

• Maintain a website for support, education and information

• Support current SIDS research
