This was the very first book that I read after Rachel died. There were no books about SIDS, although I searched, and when this book was given to me by a friend, I devoured it in a few hours since I was so desperate for guidance. I wanted to read every book and article available to search for the “answer”: how to maneuver through this bleak landscape of grief. I learned that there is no formula for survival, but it gave me guideposts to keep me on the right track. I felt so relieved that my grief was not crazy and that others had survived the loss of a child. Very helpful …… Eileen Carlins
When the Bough Breaks; Forever after the Death of a Son or Daughter Speaking from the dual perspectives of bereaved parent and psychologist, Judith Bernstein presents a breakthrough concept of mourning, documenting the process from initial grief to an altered outlook on life. Excerpts from interviews with 50 parents who lost a child, from five to 45, trace the road from devastation to healing, resulting in a work that is a tribute to resilience and the indomitable human spirit.
